Serie A: Wasteful Inter struggle to 2-1 win over Verona in first clash of 2024

Inter Milan have made their first mark of 2024 in a hard-fought 2-1 win against Verona at San Siro on Saturday.

Despite a recent stumble in their final game of 2023, Inter held a two-point lead over Juventus.

The match against Verona started in Inter’s favour, with Henrik Mkhitaryan setting up Lautaro Martinez for an early goal, putting the hosts in the lead.

Verona struggled to mount a comeback, with Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer making crucial saves to maintain his team’s lead.

After the break, Inter continued to press for a second goal, but their efforts keep hitting a brick wall staged by Verona’s defense.

However, Thomas Henry managed to equalize for Verona in the 74th minute, to make matters worse for Inter.

In an added time drama, Inter’s Davide Frattesi scored the winning goal his side. The match took a further dramatic turn when Darko Lazovic was sent off for Verona.

Meanwhile, Verona was awarded a penalty in the 99th minute, but Henry’s shot hit the post, allowing Inter to escape with the victory.
