Transfer: Tottenham move to snatch Timo Werner from Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in advanced talks with RB Leipzig for the loan signing of former Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

Werner who eyes a second stint in the Premier League, has been on Manchester United radar, however, Spurs have now taken the lead in the race to secure his services.

The German international made his move to England in 2020 when Chelsea secured his signing from RB Leipzig for £45 million, fending off competition from Liverpool.

While there were high hopes for Werner at Stamford Bridge, he struggled to live up to expectations, scoring 23 goals in 89 appearances over two seasons, although he won the Champions League.

Following his underwhelming spell at Chelsea, Werner returned to RB Leipzig in 2022 for a reduced fee of £25.3 million. Since his return to the Bundesliga club, he has scored 18 goals in 54 games.

While there were recent reports linking Werner with a potential move to Manchester United due to his dissatisfaction in Germany, it now appears that Tottenham is close to securing a loan deal for the striker.
