Barcelona’s vice-president Rafa Yuste, has confirmed that Xavi Hernandez will continue as the head coach next season, contrary too his earlier plans.
Xavi had earlier intended to step down as the Catalan club manager in the summer, but has now been convinced otherwise.
The news which is expected to be officially announced by club President Joan Laporta on Thursday, was revealed prematurely by Yuste, and carried by sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano.
He stated, “Xavi trusts our project. We can do great things together.
“We need to win titles, we all know that. We trust Xavi for that, he’s a proper Barça guy. He will be part of new Barcelona in the new Camp Nou.”
In another post, Romano quoted Yuste as saying, “Xavi will stay, he’s really happy. We’ve never opened talks for any other coach. Also, Deco trusts Xavi, that’s a guarantee.”
Xavi’s decision to extend his tenure until the end of his contract comes after much speculation regarding Barcelona’s managerial position.
The 44-year-old is expected to address the media this weekend ahead of Barcelona’s fixture against Valencia on Monday night.
