World richest man Elon Musk reportedly eyeing Liverpool in blockbuster takeover
World’s richest man Elon Musk is reportedly interested in buying Liverpool, according to his father, Errol Musk.
With a net worth of £340 billion the Tesla and X owner’s fascination with the Premier League leaders stems partly from his family ties to Merseyside.
Musk’s grandmother was born in Liverpool and his relatives have long-standing connections to the city, including relationships with members of The Beatles during their formative years.
Speaking on Times Radio, Musk senior addressed speculation about his son’s potential move to buy the Reds, saying, “I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price! But yes, he has expressed a desire, though that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”
Liverpool, currently valued at £4.3 billion according to Forbes, are owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who took over the club in 2010.
FSG recently sold a minority stake to US investment firm Dynasty Equity to address debts incurred during the pandemic, Anfield’s redevelopment and the repurchase of the Melwood training ground.
While the idea of a Musk-led takeover remains speculative, Errol Musk hinted that the billionaire’s interest is genuine. “He would like to, yes. Anybody would want to – so would I,” he added.
