World Cup: Harry Kane ends goal drought as England defeats Senegal in Round of 16

Harry Kane ends goal drought as England defeats Senegal in Round of 16

England are in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup after getting a 3-0 win over Senegal on Sunday, December 4.

With Sadio Mane missing the tournament following an injury, Senegal lacked a cutting edge to trouble an England defence that kept a third successive World Cup clean sheet for the first time in 20 years.

Though the European team had a slow start during the match, two quickfire goals from Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane at the end of the first half sparked a brilliant performance and put Gareth Southgate’s men in complete control of the match.

Bukayo Saka got the third goal for England 13 minutes into the second half to take the game away from Aliou Cisse’s side and set up a quarter-final clash with France, which earlier on Sunday defeated Poland 3-1.

The impressive victory extended England’s all-time unbeaten run against African teams to 21 games, including eight in World Cups. Morocco, who face Spain on Tuesday, are now the only African team left in the tournament.
