William Troost-Ekong to undergo minor surgery in Finland
Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is reportedly in Finland for a minor surgery, two weeks after the AFCON tournament.
The defender had picked the injury in Nigeria’s second group game of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast.
“The injury occurred during the 2nd group stage game vs Ivory Coast,” transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on his X account on Monday.
Despite the injury, Troost-Ekong played in all the AFCON games for the Super Eagles, including the final against the hosts.
He was awarded Player of the Tournament for his impressive contributions to the Jose Peseiro’s team, after bagging three goals in the continental tournament.
The surgery will see the 30-year-old sidelined until towards the end of the sesosn when he is expected to return to play for Greece Super League side PAOK.
