Why family members of Lekki victims are afraid to speak – Femi Falana reveals

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has revealed why family members of those who fell victim of the shooting at Lekki tollgate on 20th October are afraid to speak.

Why Lekki victims are afraid to speak

He disclosed this while speaking at a virtual #EndSARS meeting organized by Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, yesterday October 28.

According to him, family members of victims of #LekkiMassacre have refused to speak about the incident “because of the environment under which we operate”.

Why Lekki victims are afraid to speak

The senior advocate of Nigeria stressed that the military is “known for lies and deception”, and that there must be justice for the victims of Lekki shooting.

Falana said the Lekki incident must not be swept under the carpet just like Nigerian Army “covered up” the reported killing of 347 Shi’ites in Zaria, Kaduna state, in 2015.

Speaking at the meeting, he stressed that nothing should have warranted soldiers’ presence at the protest venue.

He said bodies of Zaria victims of the above instance “were taken away in the dead of the night and given a mass burial.”

“Who has come up in the case of Zaria? Because you must understand the environment under which we operate”, he questioned.

Falana also said some of those injured in the Lekki shooting “had to forcefully discharge themselves.”

According to Falana, the injured protesters were told in a hospital that they were going to be held liable for the riots in town, “and so, everybody had to move.”
