Why being a single mother kills women faster – Bimpe Akintunde

Nollywood actress, Bimpe Akintunde addresses the challenges of being a single mother while sharing the journey of how she had her child.

During an interview with fellow actress, Biola Bayo on her podcast Talk To B, Bimpe discussed how being a single mother is detrimental to a woman’s well-being.

She expressed that single motherhood is not something anyone desires, but circumstances sometimes lead to it, citing men’s natural inclination towards polygamy.

Bimpe Akintunde urged men to take responsibility when they impregnate a woman and become part of the family.

“I keep telling people that being a single mom is not what anyone prays for; there is nothing that kills a woman faster than single parenting. Recently, a lot of people don’t care; we have surrogate mothers, they won’t even show you their husband, they will just show you their child. I’m thankful for my journey because if hadn’t given birth 8 years ago, I may single be childless. Any man that puts a child in a woman must take responsibility even if you’re drunk while doing it.”

She further highlighted how she struggled all by herself to raise her child alone, sold her car and still could not cope while her baby daddy had yet to claim the child.

Bimpe revealed that she had to seek public help as a single mother from a foundation when she won relief items that helped her through.

“If not for families, siblings, and others, I wouldn’t have scaled through that phase,” she added.

Bimpe Akintunde on advice to single mothers

“Every single mother out there, don’t give up on yourself, and your baby. As a single mother, your child’s future lies in your hands. Even if you separate from your partner, take your child with you.”

Speaking on being in a polygamous marriage

“Men are polygamous in nature and that is something every woman should have at the back of their minds. I feel more at peace knowing that he’s at the house of his other wives when he’s not with me. Over 70% of men are polygamous; if they are not seeing other women now, they will do it in the future.”
