‘We’re still building’ – Reece James reflects on Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City
Chelsea captain Reece James shared his thoughts following their 3-1 loss to Manchester City, highlighting the challenges the team are facing as they continue to rebuild under manager Enzo Maresca.
James acknowledged the fine margins that often decide games against top teams like City, stating, “Goals are what make players and teams win games and titles.
“When the ball isn’t dropping for you, it’s tough, especially against tough teams.”
Despite the disappointing result, James emphasized that progress is being made, even if it’s not yet reflected in the outcomes.
“I like to think we’re making progress, even though the results don’t show that at the minute. It’s tough to see, but we’re giving it our all and hopefully, the results will start reflecting our effort.”
The English star also pointed to the differences in team development between Chelsea and City.
“If you look at it, we’ve been together less than a year, and they’ve been together for seven years maybe – they’ve had a lot longer to work with the manager and the team. We’re still building, and we hope to put things right.”
“We need to take it one game at a time and see where we are at the end of the season,” he added.
