UNILORIN student kidnapped en-route to Port Harcourt for NYSC freed after ₦2.5m ransom

A student of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Rhoda, who was kidnapped while traveling to Port Harcourt for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has been released after a ransom of ₦2.5 million was paid.

Her release was announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, by a popular social media influencer.

The influencer, who initially raised awareness about the incident, also initiated a crowdfunding campaign to gather the required ransom after revealing that the kidnappers had demanded ₦2.5 million for her freedom.

Less than 24 hours after the fundraiser began, the influencer confirmed Rhoda’s release in a post, saying, “Happy to announce that Rhoda has been released and is safe now. Thank you all for your donations. Only God can reward your labor of love 🙏🏾.”

He added, “Full details will come later. Let her rest and enjoy reunion with family.”

The update prompted an outpouring of gratitude and support in the comments section, with many commending the influencer’s efforts and offering words of encouragement to Rhoda and her family.
