FACT-CHECK: UNIJOS elects second female SUG President, not first

Reports that made the rounds earlier claimed that Pwajok Jane Kangyang, a Medicine and Surgery student, had supposedly made history at the University of Jos (UniJos) by becoming the institution’s first female Students Union Government (SUG) president.

SUG president.

It was previously claimed that since the school’s inception, there had never been a female SUG President.

Did Pwajok Jane Kangyang make history as UNIJOS first female SUG President?

The answer, however, is an emphatic No.

Contrary to earlier reports that made the rounds, Unijos did not elect its first female SUG president; rather, it had elected its second.

According to records gathered from reports, it was revealed that Ene Obi made history as the first female president of the Students Union of UNIJOS in 1989.

The recent election actually marks the second time a female student has been elected as SUG President, with Pwajok Jane Kangyang emerging as the winner.

The first version of this article had been erroneously made in reaction to misleading viral reports that had claimed that Miss Pwajok Jane Kangyang was the first female Unijos SUG president.

This revision has corrected the false news in light of the accurate information that followed.
