UK-based Nigerian man arrested after refusing colleague’s advances, faces false claim

A Nigerian man living in the UK has reportedly been arrested after rejecting the romantic advances of a colleague due to his marital status.

The woman allegedly retaliated by falsely accusing him of rape, leading to his arrest.

This shocking story surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly gained traction.

According to the man, he noticed that a female colleague was trying to escalate their friendship into a romantic relationship. However, he made it clear that he was married and not interested.

Unwilling to accept his rejection, the woman allegedly reported to their manager with a false claim that he had raped her.

Both of them were subsequently suspended from work in December.

The situation took a more serious turn last month when the woman recorded a video statement for the police, repeating the rape allegation. As a result, the man was arrested but later released on bail pending further investigation.

The man’s ordeal was shared on X by a third party, who posted his statement:

Hello everyone, I have an issue concerning a false allegation made by a white colleague at work. She was pushing our friendship toward a relationship, but since I’m married, I distanced myself. She then went to our manager and falsely accused me of rape, leading to both of us being suspended since December.”

“Last month, she made a video statement to the police, repeating the same claim, which led to my arrest. I was later released on bail pending investigation and told to report back at a later date.”

Does anyone know what I can do? My employer is the same company that sponsored my Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which I used to bring my family over. I need advice on how to clear my name from this police case.”

As the post went viral, concerned social media users flooded the comments with their thoughts, advice, and words of support.

See some reactions below:

@StarBede: “Do you have evidence in the form of chats or conversations where you refused her advances or something to prove your innocence? I assume before it got to that level, conversations, etc would have been had.”

@ola_data_pro: “The truth is this is a lost cause. He’ll likely be jailed and deported upon release. Regarding the COS, that’s finito. There’s no 2 ways around it.”

@real_mrclay: “Nobody in the office is your friend, absolutely nobody. They shouldn’t even know where you stay, neither should you. This is not Nigeria. Well the mistake has been made But wait, for her to assume things, it means their friendliness was not on a surface level. Is that the case?”

@ExobizNG: “He truly needs help. Contacting his village people might be helpful too. I won’t say more than that coz I’m observing Lent.”
