Two killed as explosion hits Borno community

Two people lost their lives on Wednesday following an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The tragic incident occurred at a 200-unit housing estate under construction in Dalwa.

Reports indicate the explosion happened around 1 PM, coinciding with the commissioning of housing estates in Maiduguri by Governor Babagana Zulum and his Yobe State counterpart, Mai Mala Buni.

A source informed Channels Television that a similar explosion occurred on Tuesday, though details remain unclear.

Dalwa, located 175 kilometers from Maiduguri, is one of the many communities devastated and displaced by Boko Haram insurgents. As part of reconstruction efforts, Governor Zulum initiated the building of 200 houses in the area.

Explosion

Separately, in Zamfara State, reports shows two explosions in the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area last Friday, marking the third explosive attack in the region within a week.

The blasts occurred on the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads, but no casualties were recorded.

Residents also recounted other tragic incidents, including a bomb detonating on a bridge in Yar Tasha village on Wednesday morning, killing 12 people, and another explosive triggered by an 18-seater bus last Sunday, resulting in the driver’s death.

These recurring incidents have heightened concerns about insecurity in Zamfara State, with locals fearing that explosives planted along major roads are part of a deliberate strategy by bandits to instill fear and disrupt movement.
