Tuchel not satisfied with England’s laboured win over Albania

Thomas Tuchel admits England lacked discipline in their team structure during a hard-fought 2-0 win over Albania in Friday’s World Cup qualifier at Wembley.
The match marked Tuchel’s first official game in charge, with the German coach pushing for a high-intensity approach similar to the Premier League style many of his players are accustomed to.
However, despite early promise, England’s second-half display fell flat.
“We wanted to increase the rhythm and take more risks in the second half,” Tuchel said post-match. “But we were not disciplined enough in our structure.
“We tried too much alone, out of position, and slowed the game down. We weren’t well-organized to control counterattacks.”
Debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly opened the scoring before Harry Kane sealed the win late on for the hosts.
Tuchel handed Phil Foden a start but substituted him for Jarrod Bowen in the 74th minute after a quiet performance.
“We will encourage him to do what he does best—take on defenders,” Tuchel said. “Both our wingers struggled today. I need to review why we couldn’t get the ball to them in better positions.”
Tuchel also raised concerns over Anthony Gordon’s injury after the Newcastle winger was forced off late in the game.
“It’s his hip, and it doesn’t look good. It’s worrying,” he said.
England will face Andorra in their next qualifier on Monday.
