Travel blogger visits only city in USA where cars are completely banned
A captivating video recently emerged on TikTok, shared by a user, travel blogger Povs Adventures (@povsadventures), revealing his journey to the only USA city where cars are banned.
This place is none other than Mackinac Island, nestled off the coast of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. With a population of fewer than 600 inhabitants.
Historical research uncovers an intriguing tale behind Mackinac Island’s car ban.
Once upon a time, automobiles were allowed to roam freely on the island, until an unexpected turn of events in 1898. Driven by concerns over the “perilous horseless carriages,” island residents petitioned against these contraptions, as they caused great distress among the local equine population.
Sensing the genuine fear and unease among their beloved horses, the council unanimously endorsed the petition, enforcing the car ban on the memorable date of July 6th that same year.
Presently, horses reign supreme as the island’s primary mode of transportation, seamlessly weaving their way through the picturesque streets.
