Tottenham 4-0 Everton: Toffees suffer back-to-back heavy defeats to start new season
Everton’s poor start to the new Premier League season worsened as they suffered a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
The sad humiliating left them rooted at the bottom of the table.
After a 3-0 loss at home to Brighton on the opening weekend, Sean Dyche’s side has now conceded seven goals in their first two matches without finding the back of the net.
The Toffees were undone by a combination of brilliant Spurs play and their own costly errors.
Tottenham’s opener was a stunning strike from Yves Bissouma, who fired home from just outside the box in the 14th minute, his shot crashing in off the underside of the bar.
Everton’s misery deepened in the 25th minute when goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s mistake allowed Heung-Min Son to capitalize, stealing the ball from a hesitant Pickford and slotting it into an empty net.
Everton offered little in response, managing their first and only shot on target in the 58th minute through debutant Jesper Lindstrom, which was comfortably saved by Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The Toffees’ brief second-half resurgence was halted in the 71st minute when Cristian Romero headed in a corner to mark his 100th appearance for Tottenham.
Tottenham sealed the rout six minutes later, as Micky van de Ven’s surging run set up Son, who finished clinically for his second goal of the match, and Spurs fourth in the match.
