Thomas Tuchel leading race for England manager role despite Guardiola links

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly the frontrunner to take over as England’s next manager.

The English Football Association (FA) is currently in talks with Tuchel’s representatives following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 final loss in July.

Interim manager Lee Carsley has overseen the team during the Nations League group stage but has given mixed signals about his long-term intentions.

With England’s recent 2-1 defeat to Greece, the FA has increased its search for a permanent coach.

According to Sky Sports, Tuchel could soon be confirmed, though final contract details are still being negotiated.

The FA’s technical director, John McDermott, is said to be prioritizing a candidate with a proven winning record, and Tuchel, who has won Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, and the Champions League, fits that profile.

While initial talks were held with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola earlier this year, no progress has been made on that front.

Meanwhile, Carsley has been informed that he will not be considered for the permanent role, despite recent comments that left his position unclear.
