Thiago Alcantara decides to retire from professional football after leaving Liverpool

Thiago Alcantara is reportedly set to retire from professional football following his release from Liverpool, and becoming a free agent.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, Thiago has chosen to hang up his boots instead of seeking a new club.

The 33-year-old midfielder has struggled with injuries in recent years, which was a key factor in Liverpool’s decision not to renew his contract.

Thiago’s career has been illustrious, with stints at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool, where he bagged several medals.

At Barcelona, where he rose through the academy ranks, he won four La Liga titles and the Champions League.

He moved to Bayern Munich in 2013, where he secured seven Bundesliga titles and another Champions League trophy in 2020.

After his Champions League win with Bayern and being named in the Champions League Team of the Year, Liverpool signed Thiago for £20 million.

Despite his talent, injuries plagued his tenure at Anfield. Over his first three seasons, he made 97 appearances, but last season was particularly challenging, with Thiago playing just four minutes due to persistent injuries.
