Substitute Kolo Muani sends France to quarter-final with late winner against Belgium

Substitute Randal Kolo Muani scored a late winner to send France into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 with a 1-0 win over Belgium.

Kolo Muani, who came off the bench in Düsseldorf, found the net with five minutes remaining, securing the win for the two-time European champions.

He picked up a pass from N’Golo Kante and fired a shot that deflected off Jan Vertonghen, leaving Belgian goalkeeper Koen Casteels with no chance.

France dominated much of the match, creating several opportunities through Aurélien Tchouaméni and Marcus Thuram.

Kylian Mbappe also remained a constant threat for their opponents, while Kante was all over the pitch in his usual form.

However, Belgium had their chances late in the game, with Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne both forcing crucial saves from French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

France will now face the winner of Monday’s match between Portugal and Slovenia in the quarter-finals.
