State of emergency: “Tinubu wants to capture economic soul of Rivers” – Hilda Dokubo

Veteran Nollywood actress and politician, Hilda Dokubo, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu following his declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, accusing him of attempting to capture the state’s economic assets.
Dokubo’s comments come after President Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a period of six months.
The move follows the President’s assessment of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, a situation that has sparked a range of reactions from political figures and citizens alike.

In a national address on March 18, 2025, Tinubu explained that the state of emergency was necessary after evaluating the political situation in Rivers State, where tensions between the state government and various factions have disrupted governance.
This action has garnered mixed responses from across Nigeria, with many questioning the motives behind the suspension of elected officials.
Reacting to this development, Hilda Dokubo took to her Instagram page to express her disapproval.
She labeled the declaration of a state of emergency as “shameless” and suggested that President Tinubu’s true intention was to seize control of Rivers State’s economic resources.
She wrote;
”State of emergency because for two years we have had peace!
State of emergency because you want to capture the economic soul of Rivers State!
State of emergency because of one man?
Shameless! Perhaps Mr. President should say he wants to annex Rivers State.”
“The Animal Farm by George Orwell should be given to every Rivers State citizen as palliative. Meantime, someone tell Mr Jones to rein in his pigs,” she added.
