“What in the name of sacrifice is going on” — Speculations trail induction of 100 level Theatre Arts students
The induction ceremony of 100-level students to the Department of Theatre Arts at Benue State University Makurdi stirs mixed reactions as many debates the morality behind the tradition.
Photos of students dressed in white attires while bearing a calabash and a candle struck many as an occultic process other than a typical school tradition.
The tradition of inducting 100-level students of the department is said to have been in existence for decades and is also practised in other universities too.
The induction tradition of the Theatre Arts students, however, triggered the question of right or wrong across the internet space.
“What is this?? Abeg all these people saying that’s how it’s done in all universities, dem no dey do am for my school. Speak for only your university 🙄,” a social media user wrote.
Another user added, “Lol induction in theater arts is normal. You get a certificate afterwards. I did this in Unilag too, although we held apples not candles Abeg o 😂.”
