Southgate resigns as England manager after Euro 2024 heartbreak
Gareth Southgate has resigned as England manager following the team’s sad defeat in the Euro 2024 final.
The English FA confirmed his departure in a statement on Tuesday morning, just days after the 2-1 loss to Spain in Berlin.
Appointed in 2016, Southgate revitalized a struggling England squad, leading them to consecutive Euro finals and a World Cup semi-final.
Despite these achievements, Southgate felt the time was right to step down. “It is time for change, and for a new chapter,” he stated.
His tenure saw a major transformation in the team’s performance. Under his guidance, England reached new heights, but failed to win any major tournament.
