South-West mourns as Benin Republic extends Sunday Igboho’s detention by six months
There are fierce reactions to the decision of the government of the Republic of Benin to extend the detention of Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho by six months.
On social media, Nigerians believed to be southwesterners registered their outrage after the Counsel for the detained activist, Chief Yomi Aliyyu broke the news.
Aliyyu said the Benin Republic renewed Ignoho’s incarceration despite that there was no criminal charge against him and no extradition request from the Nigerian Government.
Reacting, @Olorunnisola Innocent said, “You are punishing an innocent man for protecting his own people against terrorism… It’s quite certain that Benin republic will forever regret this act in the future and pay dearly for supporting terrorism because I believe that Yoruba Nation will surely come.”
@Obatoo said, “This will end in tears for Benin Republic.”
