Soldiers hold Fubara and his family hostage at Rivers governor’s residence

Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family are being held hostage by heavily armed soldiers at the Government House in Port-Harcourt.
This shocking development occurred just moments after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing a contentious political feud.

The feud, led by lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, had escalated rapidly, prompting impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.
Notably, Wike had played a significant role in Fubara’s election in 2023, despite corruption allegations.
Following the president’s declaration, soldiers swiftly barricaded all entrances and exits to the Government House, effectively trapping Fubara and his family.
People’s Gazette reports that when they attempted to pack their belongings and leave, the soldiers refused, restricting all movement around the premises.
An affected official told The Gazette from the scene on Tuesday night said …
“We are being held hostage. They said they don’t have instruction to let anyone leave the premises.”
Although, it is unknown whether the soldiers implemented their instructions as ordered or were overzealous in following specific orders.
