Simon Ekpa released by Finnish police, renews sit-at-home order
Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reiterates his call for a sit-at-home protest in the South-East region of Nigeria during the upcoming election weekend.
This comes hours after he was released from Finnish police custody following an arrest earlier on the 23rd of February 2023.
Ekpa, who is considered a disciple of the detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested by Finnish authorities on Thursday after issuing a sit-at-home order. Although earlier reports suggested that his arrest was related to the order, he was ultimately released after being questioned over an alleged crime.
Despite being declared a persona non-grata in Nigeria due to his disruptive activities in the South-East, Ekpa has continued to call for sit-at-home protests, which have been linked to violence and property damage in the region.
In a tweet following his release, he wrote, “Tomorrow sit at home, there will be no goat in the street.”
