Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria following a series of high-profile engagements at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland.
During the global economic summit, Shettima represented Nigeria, spotlighting the nation’s investment opportunities, championing African economic integration, and holding strategic discussions with global leaders and international organizations.
Speaking at a session titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets”, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and WEF, Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to attract sustainable investments.
“Nigeria is open for business,” he declared, highlighting recent economic reforms, including subsidy removal, exchange rate alignment, and tax restructuring under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“These measures are creating a foundation for long-term economic stability and growth, fostering an investor-friendly environment,” he added.
Championing African Economic Integration
In another session, Shettima reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), projecting the continent’s economy could reach $29 trillion by 2050.
“Nigeria is ready to leverage digital trade and innovation as catalysts for economic transformation,” he noted.
Shettima also engaged with African leaders, including Botswana’s President Duma Boko and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, to strengthen intra-African relations. “Collaboration among African nations is crucial to unlocking the continent’s full potential,” he said.
The vice president further held discussions with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and WEF President Børge Brende on key global challenges such as energy security, food crises, and environmental threats.
As a panellist at the “Financial Times Global Risks 2025” dialogue, Shettima underscored the importance of multilateral efforts to address global crises, emphasizing innovation in education and agriculture as essential tools for empowering youth and driving progress.
Accompanied by senior officials, including Ministers Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Wale Edun (Finance), Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade, and Investment), and Aisha Rimi (Executive Secretary, NIPC), Shettima returned to Abuja on Friday.
He was warmly welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and other government officials.
