Serie A: Raphael Varane reveals Fabregas’ role in joining Como

Raphael Varane has opened up about his decision to join Serie A club Como, citing how Cesc Fabregas was a significant influence.

However, the former Manchester United defender emphasized that the overall project at Como was the main draw.

“The overall project convinced me,” Varane stated during a press conference. “It was an interesting opportunity to help the club and try a new challenge.”

Fabregas, who recently transitioned to coaching at Como, was also instrumental in Varane’s decision.

“Obviously, Cesc was very important in that process, but it was a new challenge with a new league. There were all the elements required for me to come here.

“We talked about football mainly. I liked his [Fabregas’] philosophy and ideas, as we have many in common,” Varane added.

“Cesc likes to win, so there wasn’t too much that needed to be said,” the French man added.

Varane, 31, joined Como on a two-year deal with an option for a third after his contract with Manchester United ended.
