Seria A: Lookman inspires Atalanta’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Fiorentina
Ademola Lookman’s sublime performance ensured Atalanta mounted a 3-2 comeback win over Fiorentina in a thrilling encounter.
The game marked Atalanta’s first home fixture of the season at the revamped Gewiss Stadium.
Fiorentina, missing Albert Gudmundsson, handed David De Gea his Serie A debut and hoped to finally claim a win after several draws in Italy and Europe.
The visitors took the lead early when Lucas Martinez Quarta bundled in the rebound from a Robin Gosens header that Marco Carnesecchi initially saved.
Atalanta, however, quickly responded as Lookman dazzled on the left, delivering a cross for Mateo Retegui to head in the equalizer.
The Viola regained their lead through Moise Kean, who was left unmarked to head in a Rolando Mandragora cross.
Kean nearly extended Fiorentina’s advantage but struck the post from a tight angle.
Atalanta’s resilience showed once more as Charles De Ketelaere nodded in Ederson’s cross from a set piece to level the score again.
Just 60 seconds later, Lookman completed the comeback, cutting inside and squeezing his shot through a crowded box to put Atalanta 3-2 up.
