Security operatives in Kogi State successfully rescued 16 kidnapped victims, including three pastors, who were abducted in Ofu Local Government Area on Monday night.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the victims, who were returning from a crusade in Ejule, Ofu LGA, were ambushed by hoodlums around 11 p.m. along a street off the Ejule-Anyigba Road.
Acting swiftly, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, launched a search operation that lasted two nights. The rescue mission culminated in a confrontation with the kidnappers in a forest. After a two-hour gun battle, the assailants fled with injuries, leaving the abductees behind.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu, praised the bravery of the security operatives involved in the operation. In a statement by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Unubi, Salifu expressed relief that all victims were safely rescued and reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring Kogi remains hostile to criminal activities.
The deputy governor noted that under Governor Ahmed Ododo’s leadership, Kogi State would continue to prioritize the safety and security of lives and property.
It was reported that the pastors, who were guest ministers at the crusade, were abducted on their way to their guest house after the second day of the three-day event.
