Ruben Amorim worried about Man United’s set-piece struggles ahead of Newcastle clash
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has addressed concerns over his team’s set-piece struggles ahead of Newcastle clash.
The Portuguese insists that the solution lies in adapting rather than relying on taller players.
Speaking to reporters ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Amorim said: “You can see that every corner nowadays is an opportunity.
“Sometimes you forget the small guys and the talented guys and put 11 big players on corners or free-kicks.
“But that is the rule, and we cannot cry about it. We have to focus on doing the same thing to the opponent. That is my goal at the moment.”
When asked if United needed taller players to address the issue, he responded: “No. If set-pieces are becoming so important, we have to learn and do the same thing, even with the smaller guys.
“We just have to copy and use the rules to score the same goals at set-pieces.”
Amorim’s remarks come amid mounting pressure less than six weeks into his tenure.
Since replacing Erik ten Hag last month, the Portuguese tactician has struggled to turn United’s fortunes around, with the team sitting 14th in the league table.
United will host high-flying Newcastle United at Old Trafford in their final game of 2024, aiming to end a turbulent year on a positive note and ease the growing scrutiny on Amorim’s leadership.
