Rivers United appoint former Super Eagles boss Finidi George as new head coach

Nigeria Professional League side Rivers United have announced the appointment of Finidi George as their new head coach.

The NPFL champions are set to unveil Finidi in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Finidi takes over from Stanley Eguma, who was dismissed towards the end of last season.

Former Lobi Stars head coach Evans Ogenyi temporarily managed the team for the remainder of the campaign.

Finidi, who previously coached Enyimba, led the club to win the NPFL title in the 2022/23 season.

In May, he briefly served as head coach of the Super Eagles but resigned after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided to appoint a foreign technical adviser to oversee the team.

Rivers United had a disappointing finish last season, ending in eighth position in the NPFL. The club hopes Finidi’s appointment will usher in a new era of success.
