Rivers political crisis worsen as thugs set two LGA secretariats ablaze
The violence perpetrated by political thugs against the newly sworn-in local government council chairmen by Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara has intensified, with two local government council secretariats in the state set on fire.
At press time, a large group of hoodlums has stormed several local government area secretariats, vandalizing and setting property on fire.
Reports indicate that around 11 a.m. on Monday, thugs attacked the Eleme Local Government Area, setting parts of the secretariat on fire and preventing the newly sworn-in officials from accessing the office.
It is also gathered that the majors office in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state at Isiokpo has also been set ablaze by some thugs, who are claiming that the Saturday’s LGA elections in the state was illegal.
At Emohua LGA, reports say some youths had attacked the Secretariat immediately after the new chairman, David Omereji, had sworn in his Deputy, Patient Ebere, and 14 councillors and threw in several explosives, believed to be dynamites into building.
It was gathered that the dynamite has shattered many properties in the premises.
It would be recalled that the police which had maintained occupation of the LGA councils had left the council gates based on the order by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Ebetokun.
