Rangers rule out Frank Lampard as managerial candidate
Frank Lampard has been removed from consideration as a potential manager for Rangers FC following a mixed reaction from fans.
The Scottish side recently sacked Michael Beale over poor performances since the start of the new season. The club have since been in the market, in search of a new manager to take up the vacant position.
Former Chelsea manager and legend Lampard, had been interviewed by Rangers earlier in the week. He has been without a managerial role since concluding his interim stint with the West London club at the end of last season.
Previously, Lampard managed Everton and had his first experience as a boss with Derby County during the 2018/19 season.
Although initially on the shortlist, Lampard’s candidacy has now been withdrawn due to the varying opinions among Rangers fans regarding his potential appointment as manager.
Rangers will now shift their focus to alternative managerial targets. Meanwhile, Kevin Muscat, a former Rangers defender who currently manages Japanese club Yokohama Marinos, has also been interviewed for the position.
Rangers have encountered a challenging start to their campaign, securing only four wins in their first seven Scottish Premiership matches and currently occupies the third position in the league table.
Their recent 3-1 home defeat against Aberdeen marked Michael Beale’s final match in charge. Interim manager Steven Davis is currently overseeing the team, until such time a new manager will be appointed.
Rangers are seven points behind the Scottish league leaders Celtic. Celtic has remained undefeated in their first seven games.
