President Tinubu orders Customs to release seized food items to owners
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to release seized food items at border communities to their rightful owners.
The announcement was made by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, during a meeting with residents from border areas at Kongolam and Mai’Adua border stations on Saturday.
Speaking at a gathering with residents from border areas at Kongolam and Mai’Adua border stations on Saturday, March 9, the Customs chief articulated President Tinubu’s decision to utilize executive authority in the interest of the nation’s welfare.
The directive specifically targets food items that were intercepted while being transported out of the country, with the President insisting on their return to the rightful owners under the condition that these goods are to be exclusively distributed in Nigerian markets.
“In doing so, he has directed that those food items that were going out of the country that have been seized in various border areas should be returned to the owners on the condition that those goods would be sold in the Nigerian markets,” Adeniyi said during the meeting.
“We will be monitoring you to know if there is a violation of this. Those food items will be returned, and it is a directive that we will pass them back into the Nigerian markets,” he added.
