Portable makes U-turn, tells court he is ‘mentally stable’

After claiming to be mentally unstable, the embattled singer, Portable Omolalomi has swallowed his words, admitting in court that he is mentally sound and healthy.

Portable made this statement on Thursday before Magistrate O.L. Oke at the Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The 31-year-old Zazoo Zeh crooner was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command on Monday for allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

Following this, he took to Instagram on Tuesday, claiming he was a psychiatric patient undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.

“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,” he had said in the video.

However, the Ogun State Police dismissed his claims, with police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stating that being in a psychiatric facility would not exempt him from being a wanted person.

Barely 48 hours after being declared wanted, Portable turned himself in and appeared before the magistrate on Thursday. During his court hearing, Magistrate Oke questioned his mental state.

“Are you alright? Are you sure you are mentally sound? If not, we have a lot of psychiatric homes we can send you to,” the magistrate asked.

Portable responded confidently, saying, “I am mentally alright.”

The singer pleaded not guilty to the five-count charges brought against him and was granted bail of N2 million with a surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned until March 5 for further hearing.
