Police assigns special homicide team to investigate demise of Mohbad
The Nigeria Police Force forms a special team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the demise of the singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
This is said to be in accordance with the directive of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa.
The police command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, conveyed in a statement that this specialized team has been assembled from the homicide division within the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Hundeyin went on to report that the team has promptly initiated its investigative efforts regarding this case.
The decision to establish a special investigation team was prompted by both the increasing public concerns and the initial review conducted by the police concerning the overall circumstances related to the death.
“The team, which comprises seasoned homicide detectives, has been tasked to aggregate all allegations, suspicions and insinuations from various sources on the death of the singer.
“The team is to undertake a professional, diligent and timely investigation with a view to establishing facts, clearing all doubts and ensuring that justice is manifestly served through a meticulous process that will deploy all requisite protocols (which may include exhumation),” he said.
Furthermore, Hundeyin disclosed that the Lagos State Government affirmed its unwavering support for the Special Investigation Team, pledging to provide any necessary assistance to ensure a thorough and diligent investigation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed this commitment during discussions with the state’s police chief on Saturday. Their primary goal is to determine the most effective approach for carrying out the investigation and ensuring swift justice.
Hundeyin also extended an appeal to the deceased’s family, friends, business associates, or anyone possessing valuable information that could aid the investigation. They were urged to kindly share such information with the Homicide Section of the State CID through the provided phone number: 08036885727.
