PDP vows to sanction Wike, other members who sabotaged 2023 general elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made a firm commitment to take action against any members found guilty of engaging in anti-party activities and sabotaging the party’s efforts during the 2023 general elections.
During a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Captain Umar Bature (Retd), the National Organizing Secretary (NOS) of the PDP, expressed this commitment to the 36 State Chairmen of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
He emphasized the need to address anti-party activities and sabotage within the party, highlighting the importance of unity and loyalty for the success of the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 had said Nyesom Wike while a in position as the Governor of Rivers State was working for the emergence of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to win the forthcoming election.
Governor Wike and four other PDP governors known as the G5, had openly campaigned against PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general elections.
The Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum had in December 2023, vowed to wield the big stick against this category of party members.
He specifically mentioned former Rivers State Governor and now Minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike among those at risk of sanctions.
Damagum had sad, “…If Wike believes he is above this party, we will be able to show him that he is not above this party.”
However, in its renewed bid to whip party members into line, the NOS challenged state party chairmen and other stakeholders to expose those involved for the National Executive Committee (NEC), to apply the necessary sanctions.
Bature said, “A lot of agitations are coming from party members, suspend this, suspend that, you are the ones that are in charge of those states.
“You are to tell us who did anti party and who did not do anti party, based on that NEC Wil take decision. Write to us and tel us what transpired, no matter what happened.
“I also want the acting Chairman to call on the Chairman of Cross River to tell us what is happening in the state, because there are so many things happening and we are hearing in the media. We really need to know what is happening.”
Earlier, the Amb. Umar Damagum-led NWC held a meeting with the 36 State party Chairmen including the Federal Capital Territoy, to discuss the state of the party as well as preparations to tackle the challenges ahead.
