The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s New Year message, calling it “hollow” and lacking concrete solutions to tackle the country’s challenges of unemployment and hunger.
The statement accused Tinubu’s administration of being indifferent to the hardships faced by citizens, stating: “Nigerians were appalled that despite the prodding by the PDP and well-meaning citizens, President Tinubu’s New Year speech did not articulate any specific direction for the nation or proffer solutions to the myriad of problems caused by APC’s misrule.
“President Tinubu’s speech again underlines APC’s insensitivity to the anguish of Nigerians by failing to present any definite policy roadmap towards reducing the price of petroleum products, addressing the widespread hunger in the land, and revamping our ailing productive sector.”
The PDP criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to address key sectors such as fuel pricing, food security, electricity, road infrastructure, and job creation in his New Year message.
PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba noted that the speech lacked a clear policy framework to boost small and medium-scale enterprises or tackle the unemployment crisis.
The party argued that Nigerians should not be paying more than ₦350 per litre for petrol if the nation’s resources were transparently and efficiently managed.
“The address failed to outline a precise strategy to combat unemployment through targeted investments in small and medium-scale enterprises,” Ologunagba said. “With proper resource management, leveraging economic potential, and effective border policing, petrol prices should be far lower than they are today.”
He further accused the Tinubu administration of lacking the capacity, competence, and patriotic commitment to manage the country’s resources for the benefit of its citizens.
The PDP also rejected Tinubu’s claim that Nigerians have confidence in his leadership, calling it out of touch with the widespread dissatisfaction among the populace.
“Many Nigerians no longer have faith in Tinubu’s leadership and are eagerly anticipating the next election to end the hardships caused by the APC’s governance,” Ologunagba added.
The opposition party urged Tinubu to focus on the welfare and security of the people, calling for a governance approach that truly aligns with their needs.
