An Owerri-based baker, identified as Maureen Cakes, has stirred mixed reactions following her disciplinary approach to teaching students who struggle to learn at a fast pace.
In a viral video circulating on social media, some of her students were seen kneeling while holding up turning sticks as a form of punishment for failing to answer questions correctly.
In the background of the video, Maureen could be heard lamenting the difficulties of teaching students who fail to retain her lessons.
“When you come to work to learn and go home, practise! Then when I ask you questions, you fail. Call me a weak madam, no wahala. But you must learn and know it. Whether the devil in your village knows it or not, you must learn and know it,” she stated.
Her approach has since sparked debate, with some social media users criticizing her method as harsh and unprofessional, while others defended it as a tough-love strategy to ensure students take their lessons seriously.
A social media user @b_uniqu.e reacted: “This made sense years ago because most of us literally experienced this but it’s not necessary anymore. Not in this age.. recording it makes it even worse.”
Another user @rhodaayamz noted: “You’ve collected your money and you’re still punishing them ahn ahn? Or is the training free?”
