One dies as Police rescue kidnap victims in Katsina
One person have died after being rescued by the Police in a kidnap attempt in Katsina State.
The Spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
He noted that the deceased was part of the two victims who suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention by the police in the state.
The deceased had been shot by armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, during an attempt to kidnap them or the purpose of ransom payment.
The police stated that the incident had happened on Sunday.
According to him, some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, and shooting sporadically, had attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.
Sadiq however, noted that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Jibia, had led a team of operatives to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiling the kidnapping attempt and rescuing 14 victims.
He stressed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report to the nearest police station.
