Onazi urges Lookman, Osimhen to leave Serie A amid controversies

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has advised Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen to consider leaving their respective Serie A clubs.
The 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, cites recent controversies surrounding their treatment.
Onazi’s remarks follow Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s harsh criticism of Lookman after a missed penalty in a crucial UEFA Champions League playoff against Club Brugge.
Gasperini publicly labeled Lookman as one of the worst penalty takers he had ever seen, resulting to backlash from fans and pundits.
In an interview with Sportsboom.com, Onazi condemned the comments, describing them as disrespectful to a player who has consistently delivered for Atalanta.
“It is incredibly disappointing to hear such remarks from an experienced coach about one of his best players,” Onazi stated.
“Lookman isn’t just any talent—he’s the current African Player of the Year and has given his all for Atalanta. Even the best players miss penalties.”
The former Lazio midfielder suggested that Lookman should seek a fresh start at a club that appreciates his contributions.
Onazi also revisited his past advice to Osimhen, who renewed his contract with Napoli despite initial indications that he might leave.
“I told him he had accomplished the unthinkable for Napoli and should leave while the ovation was still strong,” Onazi revealed.
“He chose to renew, but when things turned sour, he reached out—perhaps proving my advice was right,” he added.
