Okoye eyes UCL dream, 2026 World Cup with Nigeria in recent interview
Udinese and Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed his ambition to play in both the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup.
The 24-year-old opened up about his career goals and time in Italy during a recent interview.
Okoye, who has been a key figure for Udinese, emphasized his desire to reach the Champions League.
“It’s every footballer’s dream growing up,” he said. However, he acknowledged the need to “take things step by step,” focusing on improving his game.
On the Serie A title race, Okoye noted that both Juventus and Inter Milan look strong contenders.
He also expressed admiration for his Udinese teammate, Alexis Sanchez, calling it a “privilege” to play alongside the Chilean star and former Arsenal forward.
Reflecting on his journey to Udinese, Okoye highlighting the challenges he faced after arriving from Watford and battling injury.
“I’m very happy with my first season,” he said, adding that his goal was to help the club remain in the Serie A.
Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, Okoye reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria, despite being eligible for Germany.
“It was always Nigeria,” he stated, describing his pride in representing his fatherland.
With the tournament approaching, Okoye remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances, particularly under their interim boss Augustine Eguavoen.
“It would mean the world to play for Nigeria at the World Cup,” he concluded.
