Official: Erik ten Hag secures one-year contract extension at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until 2026.

The Dutch manager’s future looked uncertain after United finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

However, a surprising FA Cup final victory against Manchester City prompted the club to extend his contract.

“I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.

“However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United.”

Before settling for Ten Hag, Manchester United’s leadership, including new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, explored other options.

They considered Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, and Mauricio Pochettino, but finally decided to retain Ten Hag.

Since joining United, the Dutch manager has won 66 of his 114 games, securing both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
