Official: De Zerbi named new Olympique Marseille coach
Olympique Marseille have officially appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach, following his departure from Brighton.
The Italian tactician has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
De Zerbi, 45, emerged as a prominent coaching figure at Sassuolo before a brief stint with Shakhtar Donetsk, which was cut short by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He then joined Brighton in September 2022, guiding the Seagulls to their first-ever European qualification and a Europa League quarter-final appearance, where they were eliminated by Roma.
Upon his official appointment, De Zerbi expressed excitement about his new role.
“I am excited to join Olympique Marseille and look forward to the challenges ahead,” he said. “This is a club with a rich history and passionate supporters.”
Marseille President Pablo Longoria pointed at De Zerbi’s track record of developing teams and achieving success.
“Roberto De Zerbi has demonstrated his ability to elevate teams to new heights,” Longoria stated. “We believe he is the right fit to lead Marseille into a new era.”
