Official: Arsenal announce £42m signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna
Arsenal have officially signed Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori from Serie A side Bologna for £42 million.
The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal and joins the squad at their pre-season tour in the United States.
Calafiori impressed during Euro 2024 and had a standout season with Bologna, helping them secure a fifth-place finish and a Champions League spot.
His performances caught the eye of Arsenal, leading to a protracted transfer saga that finally concluded with his move to the Emirates.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the new signing, stating, “We welcome Riccardo and his family to Arsenal.
“He is a great signing and gives us huge strength to reinforce our defence. Riccardo is a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger as we push to win major trophies.”
Calafiori will wear the number 33 shirt, previously donned by players such as Petr Cech and Arthur Okwonko.
His career began at Roma, with stints at Genoa and Basel before making his mark at Bologna.
