Nurse and two other staff arrested over missing placenta in Ondo hospital
The Police in Ondo State have arrested a nurse, health assistant and security guard at the Comprehensive Health Centre over a missing placenta.
According to report, the incident happened at the Comprehensive Health Centre at Emure-IIe, Owo Local Government Area.
The state police command, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that about three persons including the nurse on duty.
According to SP Olufunmilayo, the 23-year-old father of the new born baby, Tunde Ijanusi lodged the complaint to the divisional police about the missing placenta of his child in the hospital.
The young man disclosed that when he asked the health assistants in the hospital about the placenta in line with tradition, they couldn’t produce it. The grandmother of the child, mother of the 23-year-old father told the police that the hospitals report said that a dog entered the facility and stole the placenta.
Also, it was reported that after the issue became complicated, the hospital officials were in a haste to discharge the nursing mother and her child with taking money from the family.
“The importance of the placenta to the family according to some community elders is enormous. And the placenta tells more about the child’s glory hence dangerous to be in the wrong hands.
Though the joy over the new born is tainted with sadness, the family are clinging unto hope that spirited Nigerians and government to the missing placenta and serve justice on those involved,” the grandmother said.
