No Agreement To Call Off Strike Yet – ASUU Debunks Report On Strike Ease
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) debunked claims of suspending the ongoing strike as earlier circulated across media space.
Contrary to reports that circulated the media yesterday following a just-concluded meeting on Friday 27th, the union denied putting such assurance out.
ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, speaking to Vanguard, denied knowledge of any agreement to call off the strike.
He however stated that the union had a thorough discussion on a number of issues involving the ongoing strike and their agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
”I am not aware of that. All I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members. But I don’t know about suspension of strike,” Prof. Ogunyemi said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Chris Ngige told reporters after the meeting that, “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary shortfall, the payment system and revitalization of the university system. I am positive that all the issues would be resolved at our next meeting.”
