“Nigerians don’t believe I’m on the same level as American artistes” – Burna Boy
Famous Afrobeats musician, Damini Ogulu alias Burna Boy has lamented that most Nigerians still do not believe he’s on the same level as American musicians.
In an interview with Los Angeles Times, he bemoaned how compatriots often rate him below up-and-coming American rappers.
According to him, Nigerians usually disregard his status because of how he sounds and they can’t imagine how a person who sounds like he does would be above an American.
He added that his forthcoming album “I Told Them…” is a clap back at naysayers and detractors who has discredited him both at the beginning and middle of his career.
Burna Boy said …
“To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it. They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artist.”
