Nigerian sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping a woman in UK
Abiola Tijani, a 30-year-old Nigerian, has been arrested and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping a woman in the UK.
On Thursday, November 9, Sheffield Crown Court sentenced Abiola, of Cherry Street, Sheffield, to 12 years and three months, of which 8 years and 3 months are to be served in prison and 4 years are to be served on a licence.
The victim was heading home in the early hours of Saturday, July 29, when Tijani followed her and made several attempts to strike up a conversation. This was revealed to the court.
The victim was then pushed against some railings by Tijani, who then raped her, according to what the court was told.
A lifelong restraining order that forbade Tijani from communicating with the victim was also granted to him.
Passing sentence the Judge said, “No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate. What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare”.
On September 8, Tijani entered a guilty plea at Sheffield Crown Court and was placed under detention.
