Nigeria U-17 sensation Opayemi set for her debut in Super Falcons clash against Ethiopia
Ajakaye Opayemi has been called up to the Nigeria Super Falcons team ahead of their match against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
The match is part of the 2024 Women’s Olympics Football Tournament qualification matches.
In a post on X, Opayemi expressed her excitement, saying “Excited to announce that I’ve been invited to join the Nigeria’s senior women’s national team!
“It’s an honor to represent my country and wear the green and white. Can’t wait to give it my all and make Nigeria proud against Ethiopia!” she added.

Opayemi call-up comes after her impressive performance during the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. She will be joining the 22 players, which includes goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Osinachi Ohale, and forward Asisat Oshoala.
The Super Falcons will be looking to secure their place among the teams vying for the ticket, after missing out on qualification for the last three editions.
The winner of this encounter will move one step closer to securing a place in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris, France.
The first leg of the match is scheduled to take place on October 25, 2023, at the Addis Ababa Stadium.
Although the Super Falcons are favourites going into the two-legged tie, Ethiopia’s team are known for their surprises.
